Following on from a previous article we wrote about the “big four” supermarkets and the effect that they are having on local businesses the commission has made the following suggestions :
- Force some stores to sell ’spare’ land in areas lacking in competition.
- Ban stores from using legal tactics to block land purchasing.
- Relaxing planning law to allow more out of town developments but subject to tight controls .
Apparently the findings also suggested that 2,000 local stores are closing a year, but the supermarkets are not having an effect, no comment!! What do you think?
