Plans to build one of the world’s largest renewable energy plants on Teesside were announced today. MGT Power wants a £400m facility on land next to the main southern dock at Teesport, creating up to 150 jobs.
The firm said the site would burn 2.4m tonnes of sustainable wood chip per year, producing power for about 600,000 homes on the national grid. It is now seeking permits and planning permission for the scheme and hopes to have the plant open by 2012.
