Highcross Leicester set to open in September

Highcross Leicester is part of a larger masterplan to create a city with wider opportunities, better shopping and easier urban living

Four more major fashion brands are set to open in Leicester this Autumn: Ghost, G-Star, Henleys and Lacoste.

They join an already strong fashion line-up which already includes Arcadia, Hobbs, All Saints, Zara, Reiss, Hugo Boss, Next, H&M, New Look, River Island and Republic.

Set to open in Autumn 2008, Highcross Leicester will absorb the existing Shires shopping centre to become a single vibrant destination of over a million sq ft incorporating over 100 aspirational fashion retailers, three department stores – John Lewis, Debenhams, and House of Fraser – 120 contemporary apartments, 3,000 parking spaces, and Leicester’s first city centre multiplex cinema.

The Work Highcross roadshow launches on the 9th April helping to highlight the 2000 new jobs that will be available at Highcross when it opens on 4th September. Hundreds of people have already expressed an interest in working at Highcross by registering on the website or speaking to one of the advisors at the Information Days that were held last year.

From Humberstone Gate the roadshow will move on to Northfields Neighbourhood Centre, Brighton Road, Greater Humberstone on Tuesday 15th April. The roadshow will move around the city and across Leicestershire over the coming months to highlight the employment and training opportunities that are available.

Helen Smith, Retail Project Manager of City Strategy, said: “The recruitment roadshow is a key strand in our work to ensure that local people gain access to the upskilling and employment opportunities being created within Leicester. The retail sector is hugely important for the city and will present lots of job opportunities this year, and in years to come, so we invite everyone to come along and find out more”.

Michelle Dawson, Community Manager for Hammerson, the developers responsible for Highcross Leicester said “Opportunities are open for everyone to become a part of Highcross, either working in the retail, catering or entertainment industry sectors. The roadshow is an essential part of our campaign to raise awareness of these opportunities. We have a recruitment fair planned for later in the year and details of this will be released very soon.

Cllr Patrick Kitterick, Leicester City Council’s Cabinet lead for regeneration said: “The regeneration work going on across the city is part of a deliberate attempt by the council and its partners to create new jobs. The Work Highcross Roadshow is a vital part of that regeneration. The best way to improve people’s lives is to get them into local jobs. We have made a pledge to support local people back into work, through learning and training opportunities”.

As soon as the jobs become available we’ll be sure to contact Highcross and post their vacancies here.
