Unemployment has risen by another 49,000 and so now totals 2.5 million, according to the Office for National Statistics.
In the three months to November there were 157,000 redundancies in the UK. Men were the worst hit with male unemployment increasing by 43,000 and female unemployment by only 6,000.
It is also a concern that one fifth of 16-to-24 year olds are now out of work!!
