The retail market, so often a key indicator into the state of the economy has confirmed that it is without doubt feeling the pinch with a drop in sales across the industry.
Andy Clarke, chairman of the CBI distributive trades panel and retail director of Asda, told the Guardian: “This has been a summer that many retailers would rather forget. The downturn in the housing market is continuing to depress sales for those shops selling big-ticket items.”
Although recent figures show that this is now the case, the downturn has been showing over the last three months.
