Marks & Spencer has announced it will cut 1,230 jobs and close 27 stores following its worst performance for a decade. Twenty-five Simply Food stores will close, seven of which were only taken on two years ago. Also two main stores will close in Croydon and Woking, leading to a total of 780 store job losses.
There will also be 450 job losses from head offices. Also in another move to save cash any increase in its staff’s pensionable pay will be capped at one per cent per year.
