Over half of bankers plan to jump ship before they are pushed

Badenoch & Clark’s latest Employment Study highlights a major problem for the banking and finance industry as more than half of staff in the sector (57%) look to change roles in the next twelve months, with a quarter (25%) feeling insecure in their current role.

A staggering seven out of ten (70%) banking and financial services employees are stressed at work and over a third (35%)are finding it hard to please their boss - more than in any other industry.

Adding to the stress, one in ten (11.1%) also admitted they are not confident in the future of their organisation.

The figures are from the latest quarterly Employment Study from international recruiters Badenoch & Clark – a study that involves over 1,000 professionals throughout the UK.

Guy Emmerson, Associate Director of Badenoch & Clark comments; “ Banks and their staff have had to deal with a huge amount of change over the last twelve months, with frequent redundancies and changing working environments developing on a daily basis. What is telling from these results is the lack of support and recognition many workers feel they are getting from their boss and the low regard they hold for their employer.

“In an already pressured workplace, these institutions need to be focusing on retaining staff and ensuring that while things are tough, top talent is not walking out of the door. With job insecurity and poor recommendations form staff, banks clearly have a lot to do.

He adds; “Communicating with staff when times are tough is even more vital and many banks need to make a concerted effort to consult with their staff and actively manage their stress levels. Without facing these problems, current and indeed future employees will prove harder to attract.”
