Hundreds of organisations and businesses could be banned from hiring migrant workers for certain jobs over the coming months. Since the sponsorship system was established in February of this year businesses have needed to become registered as sponsors and it is believed that very few have. Under the new legislation, employers recruiting from outside the European Economic Area must be able to prove that the job could not have been filled from the existing resident labour market.
Employers are advised to apply as sponsors as soon as possible in an effort to prevent a backlog of applications.
