REC joins temps regulation debate

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has finally shared it’s thoughts on the continued debate over regulations that the government is threatening to introduce. They have called on the government to halt the introduction of more regulations that could impact on the recruitment industry in a number of ways. The threat comes from European directives on agency workers. An REC spokesman has suggested that the directives must be implemented in a way that has minimal effect on the currently successful temporary and contract recruitment market.

Blackberry mobile email

Mobile email is currently much in demand and the current handset of choice is the BlackBerry®. Now pretty much standard in large corporates, the small business community has really started to see the value of using BlackBerry smartphones to pick up email or search for important information on the Internet when out of the office.

The BlackBerry range suits all tastes which are now also available as a sim free blackberry. Having moved on from the large, cumbersome designs, BlackBerry now has the 8110 Pearl, the 8310 Curve and the 8800. All of these have the tried and tested email software and now also include high spec cameras with flash, expandable memory, MP3 players and GPS. Later this year, the new BlackBerry 9000 Bold will be released and this is the smartest, most capable device of them all.

So what’s the secret to getting the best support and advice? The answer is to find a provider that specialises in business communications and don’t be afraid to ask for help. The good ones, like Jelly, will be glad to give their time – without obligation - to make sure you get a solution that perfectly matches your needs. There’s often the feeling with new technology that customers will be pressured by slick salespeople into committing to expensive packages that are too complicated to operate or too expensive to run.

Now is a great time to look at setting up a remote email system as prices are coming down, the technology is very reliable and relatively simple to set up. The key though, is to talk to a provider who specialises in business mobile communications as these folks understand the issues that can affect the system operating effectively.

Jelly even has its own data specialists working in the organisation. They have experience of working with all types of server and will be able to walk customers through the set-up or install, or liaise with the person in-house who has responsibility for the IT system.

Crunch and Inflation prompt workers to take second job.

The growing consumer inflation has lead to thousands of UK employees taking second jobs to get by. On standard salaries, professionals at the bottom end of the pay scale are finding it increasingly hard to make ends meet. Many of them are taking freelance work or temp work to pay rising utility bills, food cost and petrol prices. The question is how long will they have to do this for?

Equal pay bill

The Equalities Bill is expected to force employers to disclose salary structures to make the 40% pay difference between men and women more transparent.

The Bill will encourage firms to discriminate in favour of female and ethnic minority job candidates, effectively discriminating against white men. Minister Harriet Harman told GMTV “Most women are just as committed to their jobs, yet if you are a woman working part time, your get 40% less per hour on average than a man working full time”.
