Flexible working hours over Christmas

Millions of people struggle to find the time over the festive season and none more so than working mums. During a time of year when the majority of people have to work full time hours, often twiddling their thumbs because there is very little business happening, working mums are required to take holiday to look after their children. Flexible working would provide the perfect solution at a time of year when some goodwill wouldn’t go a miss! Not enough businesses offer flexible working at times of the year when shift work amongst existing staff would provide an effective enough service.

£310 million of personal items are lost over the Xmas period

A survey by YouGov has found that Shoppers lose belongings worth more than £310 million every year in the run upto Christmas, people let their guard down and often forget bags, wallets and mobiles when they pick up their heavy Christmas bags.

Slope off for a ski season

Thinking about heading off into the hills for a ski season but fancy a job whilst out there? Obviously there are a huge range of ski season job opportunities including bar work, kitchen work, chalet work, ski guiding and much more. Something that cropped up on our radar was for Crystal, one of the better known names in skiing, they currently have over 1,000 vacancies to fill for this season and don’t think you’ve left it too late as they are always looking for more staff.

They are currently looking to fill vacancies in repping, chalet and hotel hosts, chefs and childcare staff, who must have NNEB, BTEC, NVQ in childcare or the equivalent.

Seasonal Christmas jobs….

Christmas is seen as the time of excess and people have already started to organise their Christmas shopping but will the once bouyant retail industry have the same numbers of opportunities for seasonal temp workers as it has in previous years?
The chances are that there will be some but the high street and shopping centre is losing the battle that is has been waging with the websites and I think we are more likely to see an increase in warehouse and call centre work as more and more people use the click of the mouse to purchase their christmas wish lists!!

Darkness descends on your employees…

Perhaps a little melodramatic but now that the clocks have gone back and suddenly it’s dark when most of your employees leave work. Employers are being urged to think about giving opportunities to help their staff escape the misery of the dark (often damp) journey home. The National Commute Smart Week run by Work Wise UK, wants companies to offer flexible hours and homeworking to staff (I know I’d jump at the chance!!). The other side effect is that traffic congestion and public transport services will benefit from reduced usuage during the daily commute.

If there is one area where this can be improved its in the part time job sector.
