Upturn in the Scottish job market

It has been reported that Scotland’s jobs market bounced back from nine months of falling growth in April and continued to outperform the rest of the UK as a whole.

Bank of Scotland’s latest Scottish labour market barometer, measuring the pace of job market growth increased marginally from 53.4 in March to 53.5 in April. A figure above 50 indicates expansion and demand for nursing, medical and care staff remained high. However these figures remain well below the all time high of 64.4 set in June last year. So although things might be improving ever so slightly there is still all long way to go.

The company currently has more than 300 staff at the Pinnaclehill site and also has another plant in Livingston, West Lothian. The grant will give Plexus the potential to expand the Kelso facility further.

300 jobs created by M&S

It is reported that Marks and Spencer will create 300 jobs in Scotland, with 150 part-time positions and 150 full-time roles.

The jobs will be created following the £25 million expansion of the Glasgow Fort shopping centre. Almost half of the expansion planned will be taken by Marks and Spencer .

In addition to the Marks and Spencer jobs it is believed a further 200 jobs will be created, 100 in retail and 100 in construction.

IT jobs to be created

IT and technology company Wipro is set to create hundreds of new jobs when it opens a new facility near London. It is planning a new software development facility in the south-east, probably outside London.

Wipro plans to increase the number of jobs at its Reading base by 200 to reach full capacity. It will then look to open another delivery centre in the UK, at a location yet to be decided but current considerations include Birmingham, Warwick and Edinburgh. It is thought the office will be opened in the next two years.
