Virgin hiring cabin crew

Virgin Atlantic, the Branson airline, is to hire 500 new cabin crew by the end of 2012.

The airlines careers website gets thousands of hits a week and hundreds of applications have been received already. The company has advised that they will not need to advertise externally. Historically the company has hired from very diverse backgrounds and many corporate execs hang up the shirt and tie for a job on deck.

The firm looks for people who “live the Virgin spirit”, have “interest in the customer”, are “real team players” and are without doubt “very sociable”.

Temporary staffing increases

January saw an increase of 13% year on year in the total number of people working in temporary jobs in the UK.

The biggest rise was seen in the manufacturing sector where the number of temporary workers grew by 35%. Business Services came a close second with a 33% rise. The care and construction sectors also saw positive rises.

It is really positive news for the temporary recruitment industry given the state of the economy and recent changes in the industry including the implementation of the AWR.

Npower recruits part timers in the North East

Energy company npower needs to hire 200 new staff before the end of March. The company must recruit experienced customer service advisers and experienced team managers for their north east locations. The part time and full time roles will be in Peterlee, Houghton le Spring and Thornaby.

The company hopes to attract a wealth of diverse talent given a number of organistions in the region are having to reduce headcount in these tough times.

The CIPD has revealed a number of trends following a recent survey. The north-south divide in the jobs market seems to be widening. The private sector has not been able to compensate for the reduction in jobs in the public sector. In fact, one in three private sector firms expect to make redundancies in the coming months.

It predicted that unemployment could reach 2.85 million by the end of 2012.

Dyson creates jobs after increased revenues

Dyson, the engineering firm has made turnover of £1bn for the first time ever and off the back of this success they have announced that they will create jobs amounting to about 8% of the company’s workforce.

200 of the new jobs will be engineering positions and about 150 of the jobs will go to graduates.

Dyson, best known for the bag-less vacuum cleaner employs 3,600 staff worldwide.
