VW set to create jobs

Volkswagen plans to create some 8,500 new jobs worldwide in 2008 after several lean years at the biggest European car maker.

They currently employ about 329,000 worldwide. Of the 8,500 new jobs about 5,500 will primarily go to graduates and apprentices. The remaining positions will go to people currently working for the company on a temporary basis in its new plants.

Skilled jobseekers leave the UK

Recent reports on activity from the UK job market and changes in the Australian immigration laws have lead to record numbers of UK citizens leaving the UK for what they see as greater quality of life elsewhere. The type of individual that is leaving is the skilled worker who the UK economy relies so heavily on. This UK Brain drain is concerning economists as figures from the National Office of Statistics showed that more than 380,000 people emigrated in 2006 and approximately 200,000 were considered to be long term emigrants.

Jobs in Australia

The current slog that everyone has to go through to work in Australia is about to get easier. They are changing their immigration policy in an attempt to entice skilled British workers to move out to Australia. Fom the 1st Spetember it will be easier to achieve the points required in the Australian immigration system. Apparently the real need falls in the requirement for additional doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, plumbers, dentists and IT managers.
It is understood that the goverment has increased its annual target figure for skilled workers by 5,500 to 102,500 although this is still a very low figure compared to the immigration seen in the UK where European skilled workers are still coming in their droves to fill permanent and temporary jobs across the country.

Jobs in Emerging Markets

As the Developed world becomes more and more saturated with businesses vying for the same customers, large numbers of the worlds leading organisations are concentrating on developing their strong holds on the emerging markets of the world. Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America are prime examples of where companies are investing heavily. This often means that businesses are starting in these locations from scratch and as such Interim project managers are required to set these greenfield sites up. Vast numbers of interim/temporary specialists are being recruited (as long as they have the international work experience) to manage and implement some really interesting ventures. It would seem that working abroad could open up all manner of opportunity for the savvy job hunter.
