Jobs under threat at university

A cost cutting exercise at the University of Southampton has put hundreds of jobs under threat. The move comes after a money saving review, but the number of cuts will not be known until the 23rd October.

Government agrees deal to create jobs in Hampshire

A government agreement between local authorities in Hampshire is hoped to create 15,000 jobs. The agreement will include building a rapid bus link between Gosport and Fareham, a new road linking Southampton Airport and a new ’strategic employment zone’ in Eastleigh.

Naked cleaners

Fancy a cleaning job with a difference, it pays £10 an hour but you do have to be naked! Both men and women can apply at the Southampton JobCentre Plus.

Staff will need to do washing, ironing and hoovering, in nothing but a pinny. Other cleaning jobs at the jobcentre pay £6 an hour, perhaps this is more of a summer job though!

9,000 new Asda jobs

9,000 Asda jobs in new stores and extensions throughout 2008. Asda are currently planning to open between 10 and 12 superstores, 10 Asda living stores and creating a further 1,500 Asda jobs to service their online shopping facilities.

The first opening will happen in Andover, Hampshire next month following an investment of £400m.

Credit card company cuts jobs

Barclycard is to cut 160 jobs in Northampton when it closes its credit card production. It has announced that it is to shut down its card production and statement mailing centre in Northampton.

Print production is going to be outsourced to RR Donnelley in Buckinghamshire and Gloucestershire, with mailing operations moved to Leicestershire and card operations will be moving to Hampshire.

Operations will continue at Bewer House until the end of the year and employees will then recieve a further three months on full pay so they can find alternative emploment.
