November saw an improvement in the labour market in Scotland with an increase in the number of placements of both temporary employees and permanent employees from the month previous.
This is great news for Scotland where both the temporary job market and the permanent job market have experienced more suffering than any other in the UK.
On top of this increased job availability, salaries for permanent staff have been increasing too.
It looks like Drinks Giant Diageo is set to cut upto 900 jobs in its distillery at Port Dundas in Glasgow. The distillery has been producing whiskey since 1810, closures include warehouse operations and their packaging plant. However 400 jobs will be created in Fife through the expansion of their packaging plant there.
Recent reports have shown that the Scottish retail market is outperforming the rest of the UK. Retail and associatedrecruiters are reaping the rewards of the regions success.
The latest figures from the Scottish Retail Consortium (SRC) show that total sales were up by 8.2%, a rise of 4.3% on 2008.
Northern England, Wales, the Midlands and Scotland have all suffered the largest rises in unemployment. It is the manufacturing and heavy industry areas that have seen most distress.
Official figures published by research consultancy the Work Foundation showed that Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield, Hull, Manchester, Bradford, Kirklees, Liverpool and Bristol were the worst effected areas.
