THIRTY new jobs could be created at McDonald’s restaurants in Warrington with onsite trials for the long-term unemployed.

The fast food giant is extending a regional pilot scheme run with Job Centres to try and provide up to 6,000 jobs across the country.

Job Centre candidates will be given the opportunity of a work trial at a McDonald’s restaurant as part of their recruitment process.

It aims to give candidates the chance to demonstrate their personal qualities in action, when in different circumstances they might not be considered for employment on the strength of their CV or an interview with other employers.

The announcement comes after new research published by Leeds Metropolitan University, which says the restaurant chain is making a ‘significant contribution’ to advancing ‘social mobility’ by helping its employee’s career progress.

Dave Shaw, McDonald’s franchisee in Warrington, said: “Our approach to recruitment has long been about qualities not qualifications and our training provides a balance between on-the-job skills development as well as nationally recognised GCSE and A-Level equivalent qualifications.
