NHS locums not a good thing

Employment of locums in the NHS will have a negative effect on patient care according to niche job board BritishMedicalJobs MD, Andre Shelton.

There has been a 55% increase in demand for locum vacancies due to the withdrawal of key services from the NHS. The problem is that a health service that is overstretched will almost certainly suffer if it needs to rely on a greater percentage of locum staff. Temps have their place in the workforce but it would be unfair to apply so much pressure to an unstable solution.

Public sector needs IT staff

IT recruitment firm Computer People runs an employment monitoring system that has shown that IT recruitment is up almost 6% in the public sector. Despite the consistent job cuts in the sector it would seem that IT staff are still needed to work on vital projects. The IT industry is one of the biggest and most lucrative temporary employment markets in the UK. Although this news is very slight in the grand scheme of things it is still positive news and most probably down to the new budgets that have been released since April.

West Midlands NHS announces jobs

NHS West Midlands health authority is creating 467 new front line jobs despite other jobs across the region being cut as the authority faces austerity measures. New health visitor posts to improve child and family health in the community will play a more regular and larger role in checking the safety of children when they going into homes.

Private sector unable to balance the job deficit

One of the UK’s largest recruiters of temporary and permanent staff, Hays, has announced that the increase in private sector employment is not enough to counter the fall in public sector employment.

The recruiter has experienced 27% growth in net fees from the private sector for the final 6 months of 2010 and in contrast a 36% decline in net fees from the public sector.

Private sector says no to Public sector employees

Even if you have only been in a temporary or part time job in the public sector more than 50% of private sector employers will not entertain hiring you according to a survey by the Financial Times and Barclays Corporate.

The survey has shown that over 50% of employers in the private sector where recruitment activity is on the rise will not even consider potential employees from the public sector because they believe that these workers are not equipped to hold down a job in the commercial sector.
