Temporary workers to help the manufacturing sector

The lack of clarity in how the manufacturing sector will cope in the current economy means that the sector will turn to the temporary recruitment market to manage the requirement for staffing during this time.

The Recruiter recently quoted: “The rate of growth in manufacturing has cooled very significantly since earlier in the year. We were seeing good payroll growth then. Over the next few months what we are likely to see is firms becoming increasingly reluctant to take on extra staff. Those that they do take on, they will be tempted to take on as temporary or contract workers.”

Steel plant to buck a trend with temporary workforce

The construction industry in the North East of England will buck the trend as the TCP plant in Redcar will rely on hundreds of temporary workers to get it operating again.

Some 1,500 temporary staff (engineers, platers, welders, pipe - fitters, riggers and electricians) will be needed in Teeside. A number of workers have started but the site will need many more temps in the next month.
