British brand with British jobs…

Following a multi-billion pound investment in product creation, Jaguar Land Rover has announced it is to recruit more than 1,000 new staff at its Solihull Land Rover plant.

The new roles for production operators and skilled tradespeople will be promoted with national radio and print advertisements from today.

The company’s HR director Des Thurlby says: “This is great news for Solihull. We shall be increasing the plant workforce by more than 25%. We have a loyal and committed workforce at Solihull. These jobs are well paid with great benefits. We provide high quality training and development for all our employees and we expect to receive many thousands of applications.”

Temporary workers to help the manufacturing sector

The lack of clarity in how the manufacturing sector will cope in the current economy means that the sector will turn to the temporary recruitment market to manage the requirement for staffing during this time.

The Recruiter recently quoted: “The rate of growth in manufacturing has cooled very significantly since earlier in the year. We were seeing good payroll growth then. Over the next few months what we are likely to see is firms becoming increasingly reluctant to take on extra staff. Those that they do take on, they will be tempted to take on as temporary or contract workers.”

Steel plant to buck a trend with temporary workforce

The construction industry in the North East of England will buck the trend as the TCP plant in Redcar will rely on hundreds of temporary workers to get it operating again.

Some 1,500 temporary staff (engineers, platers, welders, pipe - fitters, riggers and electricians) will be needed in Teeside. A number of workers have started but the site will need many more temps in the next month.

Tata Steel to cut jobs in the north

The effects of the recession and changing times are still effecting the job market in the North East. Tata Steel apparently plans to cut some 1,500 jobs at its Scunthorpe plant and Teesside sites after continued losses for the last two years. Tata’s England based business produces bars, rods and rails for the construction sector.

Tesco hires nationally

Tesco is thought to be hiring 9,000 new staff across the UK. Part of continued growth across Europe, Tesco will be creating 9,000 new jobs in call centres, distribution centres and the Tesco Bank.
