New energy jobs on Glasgow.

A renewable energy engineering centre is to create 250 new jobs in Glasgow with Scottish and Southern Energy.

The £20 million centre of Engineering Excellence for Renewable Energy (CEERE) will create and develop the engineering side of SSE’s offshore and onshore wind farms across Europe.

Southwark to create 112 contract jobs

Government money will support the creation of more than a hundred jobs in Southwark. The contract jobs will last 9-12 months and all 112 of them will begin from this autumn.

“The Earn and Learn programme will teach new skills to the jobless while they are working in 112 roles provided by local businesses and organisations, including positions in administration, tourism, events, the environment and community wardens.”

Bristish Gas to create jobs

Earlier this month British Gas announced that it was creating 2,600 new jobs with the roll-out of new smart meter technology.

The new jobs are in addition to the 1,500 new “green” jobs that the company announced announced to the market earlier in 2009.

The 2,600 new jobs will comprise of 2,100 engineers and 400 supporting team members and 130 managerial staff.

Some 900 of the roles will be employess who transfer to British Gas.

Construction recruiters and the Construction industry stay positive

Projects in the goverement sector have apparently risen 39% compared to this time last year according to monitoring service Emap Glenigan.

Construction recruiter Shorterm recently claimed that they had seen a real increase in work. They had made 120 more placements since the end of January.

Continued work at Olympic sites, at airports and on rail networks has ensured that business has remained bouyant

2009 is expected to be a good year with continued development of the energy sector and transport infrastructure.

Jobs in construction - a mixed report!

Although the number of job cuts increased by 50% at the end of 2008 the number of civil contracts increased at the beginning of January.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that civil engineering recorded its first year-on-year increase in contracts since June 2008.
