Some pub trivia

About 15m people visit a pub in the UK every week, keeping bar staff, chefs and waiters in employment throughout the year! The biggest pub company in the UK is Punch Taverns, it has more than 8,400 outlets, the second largest is Enterprise Inns which 7,800 outlets. We’ll seen be approaching these firms to make sure you hear about vacancies as soon as they happen.

So what is the oldest pub in the UK, currently the debate is between Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham and Ye Old Fighting Cocks in St Albans, not wanting to be bias but I used to drink in the Ye Old Fighting Cocks so that naturally gets my vote!

Sous Chef needed in Putney

Green Man PutneyHave you ever fancied working in one of the prettiest parts of London? Well the Green Man in Putney is looking for a Sous Chef.

Dating back to somewhere around 1700, the Green Man on Putney Heath stands on an old duelling spot. The pub was often the refuge for the contestants after the battles.

Putney Heath
is also notorious for its history of Highwayman, rumour has it that Dick Turpin once stashed his guns in the upstairs room. Other robbers supposedly watched their intended victims taking refreshment in the pub before going after them once they resumed their journey across the heath.

But there’s no danger of any highwaymen these days, just a cosy welcoming pub with a landscaped garden, great beers and a scrumptious menu. Also BBQ’s at the weekend.

Graduates recruitment competition

Graduates face a bleak summer of job hunting as companies cut back from their recruitment programmes due to the crisis in the financial markets, potentially creating a surge in people hunting for more flexible temp jobs.

c. 270,000 students will finish their degreess this year however they will actively be competing for only 75,000 graduate jobs, about 20% of the number of positions available 2 years ago. The will obviously mean the graduates will seek alternative employment in lower paid or temporary contract employment, potentially in bars and restaurants whilst biding their time. The problem will be exaggerated in the City of London where 10,000 job cuts are expected.

High levels of debt are obviously a major concern for students which student loans and course fees finding a job is paramount, people real can be walking a financial tightrope and run the risk of being declared bankrupt. Make sure you apply for a wide range of vacancies to ensure as many interviews as possible.
