Will the Agency Workers Regulations reduce temp workers?

It is thought that some 500,000 temporary employment contracts could be terminated due to the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) coming into force in October.

Work by Allen & Overy reveals that 33% of medium to large UK businesses might avoid increased costs by terminating agency worker contracts before the 1st October when the 12-week qualifying period for equal pay and benefits starts.

Temps should be good leavers!

Robert Kelsey, author of What’s Stopping You? Why Smart People Don’t Always Reach Their Potential and How You Can, suggests some important factors to consider when you are leaving a job. The temporary job market is so heavily biased to references that leaving one role well before starting another is advice worth listening too!

Give good notice - its always good to allow your employer as much time as possible.
Work your notice - it is the least you do.
Build rather than burn bridges - You never know where your next job will come from.
Hand over docs - Leaving an excellent handover to the next employee is vital.
Honesty and integrity - Codes of
References - Bad ones will always come back to haunt you.
The exit interview - Don’t be lulled into telling home truths. They will only impact you long term.
Stay in contact - You may get the chance to go back or use the persons own network.
Sanitise your memory - Always talk of an experience positively.
