NHS locums not a good thing

Employment of locums in the NHS will have a negative effect on patient care according to niche job board BritishMedicalJobs MD, Andre Shelton.

There has been a 55% increase in demand for locum vacancies due to the withdrawal of key services from the NHS. The problem is that a health service that is overstretched will almost certainly suffer if it needs to rely on a greater percentage of locum staff. Temps have their place in the workforce but it would be unfair to apply so much pressure to an unstable solution.

Temp workers - get your CV right!

People all too often make mistakes on their CV’s. A recent survey by specialist recruitment consultancy IntaPeople discovered some serious mistakes on the CV’s of jobseekers eager to impress but failing to.

The consultancy found that more than a quarter (29%) contained serious spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Temporary workers are often hired simply off the back of their CV without the need for an interview. It is so important to get the CV correct!

Lord Heseltine and Sir Ian Wrigglesworth encourage business to bid for share of funding for jobs and growth

Lord Heseltine and Sir Ian Wrigglesworth will be in Newcastle at a road show to promote the second round of the Regional Growth Fund and encourage bidders to compete for a share of £950m.

They will speak about the importance of economic growth and the role of the Regional Growth Fund. They will then take questions about the process of submitting high-quality bids that offer the potential to create new jobs.

More than 200 businesses and organisations are expected to attend the fifth in a series of road shows at Newcastle Civic Centre, and more than 1,000 are expected to attend the series of road shows over the next few weeks.

The Regional Growth Fund has been designed to:

provide support for projects that can drive sustainable economic growth and create new private sector jobs; and
particularly help communities that are currently dependent on the public sector make the transition to private sector-led growth and prosperity.
Lord Heseltine is Chair of the Independent Advisory Panel, which will consider all bids for funding and make recommendations to Ministers, led by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, about which should be supported. Sir Ian is Deputy Chair on the panel, which comprises of a team of academics, business and civic leaders.

Lord Heseltine said:

“The Regional Growth Fund was exceptionally popular in the first round, and we received many bids that demonstrated strategic thinking on how to create jobs and contribute to local economies.

“I hope businesses and public-private partnerships are inspired to think about innovative and creative ways of making a difference to growth and shaping their economic future, and that we will see results of this thinking when we are assessing bids.

“The road shows are an excellent opportunity for potential bidders to find out more information about ensuring bids meet the objectives and criteria. I urge all those interested to ask questions, and get as much out of these events as possible.”

Supply teachers fair better in 2011

Confidence is high among supply teachers at the moment. New research shows that only 8% of supply teachers currently spend 90 days or more without work, down from 13% last year. This is great news for temporary teachers who have struggled to find work over recent years. Supply teachers who do part time or temporary work are vital to the education system and this work model allows many great teachers to stay in the sector.
