Travel lodge lays plan for expansion raising hopes of new jobs

Budget hotel chain, Travelodge is set to open 12 new hotels as part of a £70 million investement. This year alone the investment will create more than 250 jobs, with entry level temp jobs through to full time management positions. Sites for the new hotel includes Norwich, Birstol, Poole and Stockport.

Thousands of temp jobs

Thousands of new temporary and full time jobs are being created as part of a £1 billion investment programme aiming to get young people into work. 200 councils and community groups are recruiting for a range of jobs including environment officers and sports coaches for this autumn.

The Treasury will be paying employers £6,000 for each new job created under the new stimulus.

Jaguar may have to let people go

Jaguar Land Rover, which employs about 15,000 people in the UK, has managed to avoid the shutdowns that other carmakers have had to use to save money and run down stock.

Senior staff at Jaguar Land Rover are creating plans to implement an extended shutdown of its plants in the UK. These may well include new rounds of staff layoffs in order to cope with the fall in the world car market.

Bristish Gas to create jobs

Earlier this month British Gas announced that it was creating 2,600 new jobs with the roll-out of new smart meter technology.

The new jobs are in addition to the 1,500 new “green” jobs that the company announced announced to the market earlier in 2009.

The 2,600 new jobs will comprise of 2,100 engineers and 400 supporting team members and 130 managerial staff.

Some 900 of the roles will be employess who transfer to British Gas.

Stockton man first in region to benefit from employment subsidy scheme

A property management assistant from Stockton has become the first person in the North East to secure a job through the government’s recruitment subsidy scheme.

James Taylor (23) now works for Parker Barras in Middlesbrough after the company took advantage of the ‘Golden Hello’ recruitment and training package offered by Jobcentre Plus. Through the ‘Golden Hello’ scheme, which was introduced in April, employers can get up to £2,500 for taking on jobseekers who have been unemployed for six months or more. It is part of a package of measures designed to give more support to people who’ve been claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance for some time.
