Employers have warned that an estimated 25,000 London temp jobs will be lost within months because of a new tax on work.
The proposed change means that from 1 April, all employers will have to pay VAT on the cost of hiring temps including their pay. This could see many companies stop using temps including charties and hospitals who are highly dependent on contract workers.
It is reported that the extra VAT will put £400 million on to temp wage bills and increase unemployment.
Credit-card protection company CPP are working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to recruit for more than 80 jobs at their contact centre on Centurion Park, Wilnecote, near Tamworth.
The positions cover customer service, sales and tele-marketing. CPP say that previous experience is not essential as successful applicants will be given full training. There are permanent full-time and part-time positions covering weekdays and weekends.
Asda are recruiting 400 colleagues for their new superstore which opens in Chelmsley Wood in June, and are urging local people to apply. Jobcentre Plus is helping to fill the vacancies through a Local Employment Partnership.
The Local Employment Partnership agreement with Jobcentre Plus demonstrates Asda’s commitment to make the jobs accessible and to support people through the recruitment process. The store is encouraging applications from people within the local community, particularly those who may be finding it difficult to return to work, such as lone parents and long-term unemployed.
The public sector is now the second biggest employer of accountancy contractors in the UK.
Contract services provider Giant Group has recently produced a survey showing that over 35% of accountancy contractors are employed by the government.
