Admin and support recruitment will be one of the first sectors to recover from this period of downturn.

The industry has been one of the first to see the effects of the economic climate because companies have cut administrative support and have been doing so for the last seven months.

The expectation is that when companies do begin to get busier then they will either hire temporary support or an administrator/PA support to increase efficiency.

12,000 new McDonalds jobs across Europe

McDonald’s is creating 12,000 jobs as it opens 240 new restaurants across Europe, the fast-food chain shows signs of being one of the few companies to benefit from the financial crisis. There are plans to hire 50 people at each of the 240 new restaurants.

The chain’s low-priced menus are attracting a customer base that was already expanding as a result of improved store designs and new menu choices, does their food price inflation make its fast food a better deal than necessarily eating at home?

The fast-food group also planned to add about 400 new McCafes to the 800 it already has in Europe this year. Most of the jobs McDonald’s is adding in Europe will be part-time and will include restaurant managers, assistant managers, swing managers, hostesses and crew.

TV advertising dominance wains

We all do it, so there should be no surprise that we still spend a great deal of time in front of the box even with the advent of new technologies. The biggest change to effect this media space is that we are no longer completely absorbed by tv as we our now giving our attention to texting, surfing the net or on the phone.

3/4 of 20-34 yr olds regularly use their mobile whilst the TV is on, whilst more than a third check the internet.

John Lewis bucks the trend

John Lewis have bucked the trend and released figures showing a increase in sales of 4%. 9 of the 25 stores produced sales results better than 2008. There has been a decline in homewares and furniture and an increase of in the sales of electricals and technology produce.

British Gas to create jobs

British Gas plans nearly 1,400 new jobs this year in a huge expansion of its “green collar” workforce. It wants insulation contractors and engineers to work on eco-friendly boiler technology.

Staff will also be recruited into Energy 360 - a taskforce cutting enery use at corporate customers offices. Centrica, owner of British Gas also intends to invest £40 million in its Engineering Academy.
