The Government has announced that Jobcentres are to recruit 6,000 staff to cope with the big rise in the number of people out of work. The recruitment measure reverses the stratergy of the past few years during which Jobcentre Plus has axed more than 16,000 posts as part of a government-wide efficency drive.
The additional 6,000 staff are to be financied out of an extra £1.3bn for Jobcentre Plus promised by the chancellor in his pre-Budget report.
