The IoD (Institute of Directors) recently carried out a study of it members and was shocked to learn that 71% believe that the literacy of their newest recruits has declined and that 60% believe that numeracy skills have fallen too. Even basic communication skills were thought to got worse.
This concern from employers needs to be listened to by the government and education authorities and it is quite clear that something needs to be done about it
Jill Knight, the schools minister said: “We are tackling employers’ concerns head on with the biggest education reform for generations.”
