Do exam results really matter?

With all the recent publication of exam results the question of how impactive these results are is raised yet again. A new survey shows that academic results have made little or no impact on careers!

Monster.co.uk showed that 75% of respondents felt that academic results had not impacted their career. Amazingly only 10% of those surveyed thought that results had been instrumental in getting them to where they are today.

Employment strategy revealed by Mayor of London

Boris Johnson has launched a new strategy to help improve job opportunities in London. The mayor’s plans, entitled London’s Future, is the capital’s first skills and employment strategy and it is designed to get increasing numbers of people into employment over the next five years.

London curently has 30% unemployment and London’s Future outlines plans to work with employers to create better opportunities for skills and employment to help maintain London’s economic position.

Retail jobs created in Devon

Tesco has announced it will open a new store in south Devon creating around 30 retail jobs. The new Express store will be in Concord House on Torquay Road and is part of a national expansion initiative.

The store should be open late in the year and will provide a welcome boost to the local economy for both jobs seekers and shoppers.

Workers expect career changes

A quarter of Britons believe they will change careers at least three times according to a study by The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA). Research for the government agency found that 60 per cent of people expected to change careers twice over their working lives.

The study also revealed that a significant number of employees are anxious to move to a job that would make a positive contribution to society.

Female workers suffer

According to the Trades Union Congress, a recent study has shown that female migrant workers are more likely than any other group of employee to be under than the national minimum wage.

It is thought that some 35,000 women who migrated to the UK to find work faced a disproportionate risk of being illegally underpaid!
