Number of temp jobs increases…

Financial recruiters are making the most of the current economic uncertainty because many employers are switching their hiring strategies to take on more temporary staff.

The switch from permanent to temporary hiring is now 40:60 in favour of temporary business, compared to 50:50 previously.

Barclays joins the Mayor’s minimum wage

Barclays Bank is the latest company to join up to the Mayor’s increased minimum wage. Over 300 staff in branches across the capital will benefit from the £7.73 an hour pay structure.

New Hydro Spa promises 30 jobs in Lancashire

More than 30 jobs will be created at a Fylde holiday village if plans for a £3m hydro-spa are approved. Bosses at Ribby Hall Village, near Wrea Green, have submitted plans to extend its Manor House Hotel by a further 10 rooms plus beauty salons, a
solarium and “ice rooms”.

The multi-million pound venture comes as the holiday village celebrates record figures over the past two months.
Its new hydro-spa comes as Ribby Hall prepares to open its £1m holiday cottages.

Once the spa is open the owners hope to increase the number of holidaymakers promising it will be the “best in the North West”.
Ribby Hall attracts more than 24,000 business people a year to its conference facility and also has more than 300 holiday home owners with a 3,000 member gym and sports complex.

150 New jobs to be created on Teesside

Plans to build one of the world’s largest renewable energy plants on Teesside were announced today. MGT Power wants a £400m facility on land next to the main southern dock at Teesport, creating up to 150 jobs.

The firm said the site would burn 2.4m tonnes of sustainable wood chip per year, producing power for about 600,000 homes on the national grid. It is now seeking permits and planning permission for the scheme and hopes to have the plant open by 2012.

There are also 5 million adults with no qualifications, of which half are unemployed. 60% of pupils leaving school during the past 10 years (3.9 million) have done so with less than 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above, of which 1 million don’t even have 5 GCSE’s at all!
