Are the banks bracing for 2nd round of cuts….

It is rumoured that both Goldmans and Citigroup are to face more massive cuts across a range of divisions in their respective businesses. It has been suggested that many investment banks held back on cuts amid hopes that the markets would hold up. This may not be the case and so more cost saving is expected. This is not all doom and gloom for the temporary employment market. It is at times like these that temporary roles are created and the opportunity for temps is increased.

Prince takes Duchy Originals global

Prince Charles is taking his Duchy Originals brand to America and India in an effort to promote organic foods globally and aid farming communities across the world. The organic food market is growing at a rate of 20% year and Duchy aims to achieve a rate of 30% a year. It will result in annual turnover quadrupling to £200m.

Edinburgh City Jobfair

Compass Catering, security specialists Group Four, Royal Mail and the Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel And Country Club will be among the employers attending a job fair being held at Edinburgh City Jobcentre Plus in South St Andrew Street on Wednesday, June 25, from 10am till 3.30pm.

There will be jobs on offer in a range of fields, including catering and hospitality, nursing and baggage handling at Edinburgh Airport.

Strikes result in loss of 1 million work days

More than 1 million work days were lost in 2007 due to staff strikes, that is 250,000 more than in 2006. The transport, storage and communication industries were hardest hit. The North West saw the most days lost and the East Midlands the fewest according to the GMB.
