It has been reported that about 730 jobs are at risk beacuse Northern Foods is mothballing a factory at Grantham, Lincs, which supplies meals to Marks & Spencer.

Russian Speaking PA

This is a little niche for uktemps but we wanted to let you know about an excellent opportunity at a renowned bank for an experienced Russian speaking investment banking secretary. The role is fast paced and varied, and you need highly advanced multi-tasking skills as you will be organising visas, managing diaries and liaising with travel firms. The role also involves helping out with PowerPoint presentations, dealing with correspondence, expenses and helping out other Secretaries with any overflow of work.

Previous investment banking secretarial experience is a must, as is a fluent knowledge of the Russian language. This is a maternity cover assignment so please make sure that you are free immediately and on an ongoing basis.

The right job?

According to a poll millions of people are in the wrong job. People lose an average of almost five years of career development. It has been reported, following a survey by the Skills Commission, that one in five people are currently in the wrong line of work.

The Commission said that this results in 132 million years having been spent in the wrong career. Employees are not making the best use of their skills. Before getting stuck in to a job that does not interest you why not try a selection of different temp jobs to find where your skills are best suited and what career path you want to take.

Lie detectors to stop employees taking sickies….

You might not believe this but Harrow Council have been undertaking a 1 year trial using a Voice Risk Analysis (VRA) system to find out whether their staff were not telling the truth when they say that they are too ill to work. It is thought that the Council has saved some £400,000 + in misallocated employee benefits claims. It’ll make you think twice about pulling a sickie in future…..

Temporary and Agency Workers Bill held up…

The Temporary and Agency Workers (Equal Treatment) Bill that has envoked controversial comment to date has been held up in government. The Bill, that would allow agency workers / staff the same rights as permanent staff, was voted to the wire and so it will now continue through committee stage whilst MPs suggest changes. Even greater uproar was caused when the Employee Relations Minister, Pat McFadden, took the decision not to vote at all.
