The Ministry of Defence has finally approved the £4 billion construction of two aircraft carries for the Royal Navy, securing about 10,000 jobs in British shipyards. This will also create another 1000 jobs. The signing of the these contracts for the construction of HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales also gives the go-ahead to the merger of the marine interests of BAE Systems and VT.
The £8.7 million merger between Londons Reuters and the Canadian firm Thomson could leave 1500 staff without jobs. The overlap between the two firms has led to unavoidable job losses. Unions have now considering strike action to defend the employees and their employment!

Avon calling! The cosmetics company has launched a recruitment drive to find 1,000’s of new field sales reps across the UK. They were once called Avon Ladies, but that no longer applies as the company says five per cent of the 170,000 reps already working in the UK are men.
Reps are self-employed and can be any age over 18. They work at any level they choose - from those earning £1 for every £5 of products they sell to friends and families in their sparetime to becoming one of the top achievers. Some businesses have a turnover of £2million and these reps are invited to join the President’s Club with its extra incentives and perks such as invitations to gala dinners.
