The death of the Polaroid

Here is a little business tip following on from the announcement made by Polaroid last week that it is to stop making the film that made instant photography what it is today. Unfortunately due to the creation of digital cameras film production is no longer viable and its illustrious past of recording family scenes, crime snap shots and every imaginable situation (as long as you were close to the camera!!) over the 5 decades is over…..

The closure of the company has resulted in the loss of over 450 jobs in Mexico and the Netherlands. However my tip to you is, buy these soon to be retro items and make an investment for the future.

Womens still get paid less than men.

Government contracts worth over £125bn a year should be withheld from companies that pay women less than men according to a cross party committee of MP’s.

Their findings highlight that after 30 yrs of legislation full time women workers earn c.17% less than men still, with part time and temp employees earning c.35% less than men.

Weather the recession

I for one can’t remember the last recession that plunged this country into mass unemployment and devastated the housing market, so who’s jobs traditionally go first as some industries are more vulnerable than others?

In the past the first jobs to go have been those in property and property related services and non essential retail. Construction jobs take a dive as new builds are put on hold and only the strongest restaurants survive as people spend less and less on treats.

Legal positions and financial roles diversify and adapt as different skill sets are needed, for example insolvency practitioners, liquidations, specialist counsellors are all in demand in tough times. Think hard about your career before it starts and you’ll ride through the tough times ahead.
