The vicious onset on the Norovirus this winter has reached record proportions with the worse cases being seen since 2002. The government and related health advisers are warning people to stay at home for at least 48 hours after you believe that you are better and this extended the amount of time that vast numbers of staff are being kept away from work. The numbers of people calling in sick has therefore led to increased numbers of temporary workers being needed in the workplace.

In a risky move on potentially the eve of a global recession the Tories have announced a proposal to get millions of people currently claiming state benefit back into work.
David Cameron is set to reveal a proposal that would require the unemployed to attend a mandatory welfare to work programme which will be designed to prepare and train them to get back into the workplace. Interestingly the programme will be run by private companies on a no win no fee basis, i.e. these firms will be paid on their success rate at getting people back into work, this mirrors similar programmes run in the US and Australia.
English language learning for long term migrants is due for a boost as Ministers plan to increase funding, in principal this means that there should be more part time and permanent job opportunities for migrants who are able to communicate fully.
The Government will continue to spend £300 million annually, however a higher proportion will be diverted to long term migrants and taken away from short term migrants. The Government has also suggested that this should be part financed by local employers too, arguable with a recession coming this will be the last thing on the mind of small business men as their purse strings get tightened!
