Darkness descends on your employees…

Perhaps a little melodramatic but now that the clocks have gone back and suddenly it’s dark when most of your employees leave work. Employers are being urged to think about giving opportunities to help their staff escape the misery of the dark (often damp) journey home. The National Commute Smart Week run by Work Wise UK, wants companies to offer flexible hours and homeworking to staff (I know I’d jump at the chance!!). The other side effect is that traffic congestion and public transport services will benefit from reduced usuage during the daily commute.

If there is one area where this can be improved its in the part time job sector.

The Gamers ultimate job!

HMV is to launch a PC gaming space at its store in Trocadero Store in the West End of London in partnership with Gamerbase. The gaming centre will contain 80 computers and will allow gamers to even preview games before launch. This could be an interesting insight into gamers buying habits as well as allowing employees to interact directly with the people buying their products.

There are further plans to expand the number of gaming centres to other HMV stores giving a number of lucky computer fans their ideal job, check back here for further details.

Mens store Ministry opens in Derby

Menswear store Ministry is opening at the Westfield Derby Shopping centre. The shop features a chainmail curved wall for their formal menswear, bit funky! If the store works there are plans to open a further 10-15 outlets… Head over for mens retails jobs.

Flexible working supported

In the Queen’s Speech, the government said that it wants to extend the right to flexible working to all parents in Britain in a move designed to improve the country’s work-life balance.
Aimed at assisting parents with children up to their teens, this flexible working initiative would aid thousands of parents who struggle with the constraints of a full time role while trying to be a good parent.

The change was hailed as a great move but many business leaders responded in a subdued manor. The feasibility of this is ok for larger multinational businesses, for smaller SME’s though the burden could cause them havoc.
