Working in the UK

If you want to work in the UK whether or not you can do so depends on who you are. Unless you’re a British citizen or a citizen of one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, you may need a visa before you travel here.

If you have to get a visa, you’ll need to be cleared by officials at a British Overseas Mission in your country of origin. Once cleared, the entry clearance certificate, or visa, will be put into your passport or travel document.

Glasgow Buchanan centre to double in size

The Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow has just had approval to double its size making it one of the largest shopping centres in the UK. The extension will see the shopping centre spreading into its existing car park and over the railway lines of Queen Street station.

Demand for the shopping centre will create plenty of additional part time jobs in Glasgow in both contruction, catering and retail.

Retail work in London

The West End of London is investing vast amounts of money to keep ahead of local competiton. The heads of leading retailers met with Mayor Livingstone recently to discuss the proposed investment of up to £34 Million. This will see the West End transformed over the next 5 years in time for the Olympic games in 2012.

The imminent opening of large shopping centres in White City, Stratford, Elephant and Castle and Wandsworth will see the capitals retail market change phenomenonly. The outcome for the job hunter is that numerous jobs will e created across the retail sector as well as across construction and engineering as these sites need to be developed and transport links between them and to them need to be upgraded.
