Work Life Balance

The latest work fad to be implemented by Aon Consulting is the piloting of a “nine-day fortnight” to promote a positive work-life balance for its employees. The reward initiative will allow staff at the benefits and HR consulting firm to take off one day every two weeks.

In the competitive market that we work in today, employees are seeking rewards beyond a standard annual salary and bonus package so Aon are looking to help their people by offering an excellent work-life balance.

Staff are will be required to maintain high-service standards during a six-month pilot programme which will be used to track the progress of service delivery and meeting business goals.

The idea for the programme arose from an employee survey on how the company could achieve a flexible-working culture. The programme is part of a wider set of initiatives Aon Consulting is testing to create a better company workplace this also flexible career paths and an environmentally friendly scheme in all offices.

A number of other firms have considered this flexible working option and not have had success. The option leads to a part time alternative that we will wait to see whether it is successful or not.

Working from Home - Job Satisfaction

Talent management and the competition for top quality talent means that businesses are using their initiative to compete for the best employees in the industry. The new option is to recruit home based staff and a number of businesses are piloting the scheme in the US and Australia. Recruiting home-based staff means that organisations can access new groups of people. It is thought that the scheme will open up opportunities for workers who are unable to travel or have childcare commitments.

E-learning allows for training externally and technology generally means that working from home is now a really feasible option.
