St Stephen’s development in Hull has seen 230,000 customers come through its doors in the first week of trading, spending an estimated £1.25m.
St Stephen’s shopping centre is anchored by a 160,000-sq ft Tesco Extra store, in addition Hull is welcming 50 other new stores including H&M and Zara, Jane Norman and La Senza.
Further phases of the development which will be completed over the coming months will provide cafes and restaurants, a cinema, an Express by Holiday Inn hotel and new homes for the Albemarle Music Centre and the acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre, due for completion in 2008.
As part of the St Stephen’s development, Hull’s Paragon Station has been redeveloped to create the UK’s first fully integrated transport interchange. The £18 million project provides shared facilities for trains, buses and coaches and will deliver some 24,000 people to the city centre each day.
It is also anticipated that the construction of 220 new homes will start in 2008.
