Ridings shopping centre in Wakefield gets a £25m revamp

Ridings shopping centre in Wakefield has unveiled plans for a £25m revamp. Proposals include a 100,000-sq ft extension, re-designed entrances, a re-designed food court, a new café and other aesthetic improvements. If approved, work is expected to take place during the course of 2008 nad hundreds of new full time and part time jobs in Wakefield.

The plans include a three storey extension to the centre, on land located between Rodney Yard and the existing service yard entrance of Southgate. This extension will allow existing businesses to expands and attract new ones to Wakefield.

The makeover will give the existing centre a clena and new look, with imposing new entrances that will use glass and natural light to enhance the shopping environment and improve interaction between the centre and the public realm.

Sheffield jobs created at new TK Max store

A 45,000-sq ft retail unit in Orchard Square Centre in Sheffield to has been let to TK Maxx creating lots of new jobs in Sheffield, the new store will be created as part of an extension to the existing TK Maxx shop.

Construction of the new larger retail unit is now under way and is scheduled for completion by the end of Summer 2008 at a cost of approximately £4.5m.

More M&S jobs confirmed at Portsmouth

Centros Miller, the developer of Portsmouth’s Northern Quarter, has now confirmed that Marks & Spencer will join John Lewis to form the two main retail anchors of the £500m city centre development creating huge numbers of jobs for the local area.

M&S will create two new shopping streets leading from Commercial Road to a public piazza and linking into the existing Cascades shopping centre. Northern Quarter will also provide more than 80 other new shops, cafés and restaurants, 200 residential apartments, 2,300 car parking spaces, plus bus and taxi facilities, again creating thousands of part time jobs in Portsmouth.

The development already has outline planning consent, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2008 with completion due in late 2010.
