The Prime Minister has apparently announced or at least muted that there is the possibility that the minimum wage could change or vary according to where you are the country. Academic research has suggested that the national variation of the minimum wage would potentially boost the economy and better mirror living costs. It would mean that the minimum wage would be increased in places like London where cost of living is exceptionally high and actually be reduced in areas such as Northern Ireland where costs are much lower. The minimum wage is currently £5.35 nationally.
This news has caused outrage with many union and business heads and will undoubtedly upset the nations temporary work force who commonly work directly in line with the minimum wage.
